Beginning a demonstration test for carsharing between enterprises in the same building
The four of Sumitomo Corporation Kyushu Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Hakata-ku, Fukuoka-shi; President and CEO: Kazuyuki Takahashi; hereinafter referred to as “Sumitomo Kyushu”), Sumitomo Mitsui Auto Service Company, Limited (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo-to; President ＆ CEO: Akira Tsuyuguchi; hereinafter referred to as “SMAS”), Tokai Rika Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Oguchi-cho, Niwagun, Ehime-ken; Representative Director and President: Hiroyoshi Ninoyu; hereinafter referred to as “Tokai Rika”), and dotD, Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo-to; Representative Director and CEO: Hisashi Onoda; hereinafter referred to as “dotD”) began a demonstration test for carsharing between enterprises occupying the same building (hereinafter referred to as “the project”). This started with sharing between Sumitomo Kyushu and the SMAS Fukuoka Branch, and the number of participating enterprises and number of shared cars are scheduled to be increased.
Outline of a demonstration test
As opportunities for transport using company cars decrease due to the spread of telecommuting and changes in working methods, in order to reduce fixed costs, many enterprises have a need to reduce company cars or transition to mobility services in which usage fees are paid only for the amount of use. By sharing cars between multiple enterprises occupying the same building rather than managing and using company-owned cars, for which the rate of operation has dropped due to a reduction in opportunities for use, as a single company, it is possible to reduce the burden on enterprises requiring company cars. The project aims to, with respect to inter-enterprise carsharing, verify potential need and build a service.
June 1, 2021 (Mon) – March 31, 2022 (Thu) (Scheduled) Hakata Kangen Building (Hakataekimae, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka-shi)
- Contents of Verification
(1) Inter-Enterprise Carsharing
Sumitomo Kyushu and the SMAS Fukuoka Branch, two companies from the corporate group that have locations in the same building, will share vehicles during business hours on weekdays to verify the operability, convenience and usability of inter-enterprise carsharing. The number of participating enterprises and number of shared cars are scheduled to be increased during the project period.
A web system for reserving vehicles will be newly developed and linked with smartphone apps developed by Tokai Rika and dotD to lock and unlock a vehicle. (*1) Through this project, we aim to build a system for commercialization while confirming the system’s functions and usability.
(3) Effective Utilization of vehicles Having Expired Leases
In the Project, vehicles from SMAS having expired leases will be used as carsharing vehicles. In the future, by repurposing company-owned cars as carsharing vehicles, we will aim to realize various methods to utilize company cars.
(*1) Locking and unlocking vehicles is realized using the in-vehicle device “FREEKEY Box” and the smartphone app “FREEKEY for CAR” that operates the device. By linking these to a vehicle reservation web system, when a user reserves a vehicle from the web system, a digital key is given to the smartphone app, and locking and unlocking is enabled.
